Artist Statement
I don"t think anyone has defined art better than James Hillman. "Art is the visual manifestation of the souls desperate concerns". My art is a way of augmenting feelings and defining observations of common human experiences that tie us together. Hence my work has an expressive, figurative focus, capturing a gestural, symbolic "meaning of the moment". The figures in my work are often portrayed in a decisive, emotional minute that will have a lasting impact on the human condition. My modernist painting style is heavily influenced by the Bay Area Figure Painters of the 1950s and 1960s.
